Car heater

Car heater worked out fine last night. I coincided it with a short drive I had to make. So I cranked the heat up all the way and it kept warm till I slept that night. It was a straight sleep this time --one little wake up around dawn when I found out I lost one blanket layer... But with that straightened out, slept again and woke up great this morning. A bit chilly changing clothes, but manageable.

  2. The price of the coleman made me think twice... especially the part where the refill only lasts 5 hours at the low setting... Kind of a bummer. If I have to turn it off, anyway, yeah, I'd rather just warm up the vehicle using my own engine. The idling of it can't consume more than a gallon and at $3 a gal., it's definitely cheaper than the small canister at $4... Same effect in the end. :) I get my warming without having to buy an $90 gizmo.

  3. There is a 1500 BTU Coleman and that lasts 14 hours.

  4. Really? That's the one I am looking for! I'd consider something like that... 14 hours is good.

  5. I think this will come out right. If it doesn't just copy and paste to the browser. Now remember its small. So I think for the van it would take the chill out of the air. Like the 1st reviewer said its not for a large place. The van isnt right? LOL

  7. I just ordered it. :) Thanks!
Funny how it's cheaper on Amazon than on the Coleman site. :)

  9. Oh yeah, the car heater works pretty good too. I never think to use it because I hate getting up and out of bed when it's cold. I only do it if I have to use the bathroom and do my best to avoid that as is.

  10. OK! So now I am typing this beside the coleman catalytic heater. First thing I learned that this model needs a match to light... or a lighter. But be aware that it ignites with a sudden whooosh! so just be ready for that. Seems like a small explosion, but it dies down and heat starts burning on it. There is a smell, alright. That's why it's here beside me in the office so the smell isn't as concentrated in a small area. Still... I wish there was an easier way to light this... maybe I should get one of those kitchen spark "guns"... that whoooshe of ignition does surprise you and you might drop the match... It does warm you somewhat. I will warm my van after this smell goes away...

  11. Heeey... I suddenly noticed although I clicked the site you mentioned, Tippy... and ordered the coleman... somehow I got shipped one without the instastart button. Maybe I mis-clicked somewhere but be aware of that when you order.

And yeah... dang... the burning plastic smell is strong so the reviewers were right... try burning it off first before using. It's giving me a headache so I set it outside and am currently allowing it to burn out before I use it.

  12. 4 hours later. it is still burning. It is now inside my van and I am enjoying the toastiness... :) the burning plastic smell is still there, but a bit more bearable now. It certainly keeps a small vehicle warm in 45 degree weather...

  13. Its actually better to have the one you light. I hear the switched one breaks easily. Im glad your warmer ...now I need to order mine soon.

  14. Well, how about that? I guess I accidentally ordered the right one, then! :)
The lighter was just a dollar so it wasn't too bad.

It just takes the edge off the cold. It won't make the whole van toasty because I have to keep a vent open (or else I'll run out of air). I put my feet close to it last night.
But I don't keep it on. I turn it off just as I am about to sleep.

  15. Yeah thats good. Is your van insulated? Because I hear if its not insulated you don't have to worry so much about the window being cracked. Thats good to hear I like when its cooler not hot as an oven.

  16. The good news is that there are many well-made products on the market today and are very affordable. These products are also known as ceramic heaters, 12 volt, portable car heaters ceramic heaters and other names, but for the purposes of this guide we will refer to them as portable car heaters.
